Border Patrol Agent (BPA) Practice Test FAQ

What is the Border Patrol Agent entrance exam?
The Border Patrol Agent exam is a multiple-choice test required for applicants seeking to join U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as Border Patrol Agents. It measures logical reasoning, critical thinking, and other skills needed to succeed in training and on the job.

What subjects are covered on the BPA exam?
The BPA exam primarily tests logical reasoning. There is also a personal experience portion of the test but we do not include that in our practice tests since it is something you do not need to prepare for.

How many questions are on the Border Patrol Agent test?
The logical reasoning section of the real BPA exam has around 30 questions. Candidates must read short passages and answer questions about what can or cannot be logically concluded. Our practice exams are designed to simulate this with 30 questions each practice round. You can practice as many times as you'd like and questions will be pulled randomly from our question bank so you each attempt should feel fresh.

How hard is the BPA entrance exam?
Many candidates find the exam difficult because of the time pressure and the tricky wording of logical reasoning questions. Practicing ahead of time can help you learn how to spot logic traps and improve your accuracy and speed.

How long does it take to complete the BPA test?
The Border Patrol Agent exam typically takes about two hours to complete. The logical reasoning portion should take around 90 minutes, depending on your pace.

What score do I need to pass the BPA exam?
CBP does not publish official passing scores. Instead, your score is compared to other applicants. A higher score improves your ranking and increases your chances of moving forward in the hiring process.

Can I retake the Border Patrol Agent entrance exam?
Yes. If you fail the exam, you can reapply after a waiting period. However, the process can take months, so preparing properly the first time gives you the best chance to advance.

How does this BPA practice test help me prepare?
Our practice exam mirrors the format and difficulty of the real test. You’ll get timed questions, detailed answer explanations, and a full score report so you know your strengths and what to improve before test day.

How does the Border Patrol Agent test differ from the Customs & Border Protection Officer exam?

In addition to Logical Reasoning questions, the Customs & Border Protection exam tests Writing, Grammar & Vocabulary skills. The Logical reasoning questions are very similar but slightly geared towards CBP Officer scenarios. If you are interested in the CBP role, we also offer practice tests for CBP.
